Active Component in Turmeric – Curcumin Supplement

Curcumin is the bioactive medicinal constituent in turmeric, a plant and member of the ginger family. You probably know turmeric as the main spice in curry powder and curried foods; it offers a warm, bitter taste and also provides the yellow color in mustard and some cheeses. The roots (rhizomes) of the turmeric plant are widely used to make natural medicines.

However, only 2-5% of turmeric is actually curcumin and it is not well absorbed or bioavailable. In order for the body to fully benefit from this medicinal botanical, a highly absorbable form of curcumin (such as BCM-95 – see below) is needed.

Scientific studies have demonstrated that a curcumin supplement can offer natural pain relief by decreasing inflammation and swelling and working on the COX-2 enzymes (as do aspirin and ibuprofen) as well as modulating other inflammatory pathways.

Curcumin supports increased joint mobility and flexibility.

Curcumin also supports the immune system and is a potent antioxidant which can assist the body in eliminating free radicals (generated by oxidative stress). Oxidative stress may be one of the factors which plays a role in the development of chronic and degenerative diseases such as cancer, heart disease and degenerative neurological conditions.

Curcumin and Boswellia — A Winning Combination for Inflammation and Pain — Address Separate Pain Pathways

By combining two medicinal herbs — Curcumin and Boswellia — you can address two enzyme pathways that involve pain and inflammation!

Curcumin and Boswellia work on separate inflammatory pathways! Curcumin works on the COX-2 enzymes and Boswellia works on the 5-LOX enzyme.

On it’s own, Boswellia, also known as Frankincense, is an excellent anti-inflammatory known for its action on mucosal linings in the gut and upper and lower respiratory tracts (sinuses, lung and bronchi). Boswellia helps modulate the activity of the inflammatory enzyme 5-LOX (lipoxygenase).

Curaphen pain formula, which contains a combination of BCM-95 curcumin and boswellia, is a clinically studied professional grade supplement to reduce inflammation and consequently pain. Many of my clients have realized tremendous relief of joint and back pain with Curaphen.

The Importance of a High Quality Dietary Supplements

BCM-95 curcumin with turmeric essential oils and phospholipids has up to 10 times better absorption and greater blood retention time (8-12 hours) at meaningful levels than standard 95% curcumin extracts.

There are many published clinical trials demonstrating the efficacy of BCM-95; some of the studies compare BCM-95 with prescription drugs. (Clinical studies with curcumin commonly use the 500 mg. dose, one or more times daily.)
