What is AHCC?

AHCC is supported by over 30 human clinical studies at respected medical institutions — including Yale Medical School, MD Anderson, UC Davis, and the Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

AHCC is the world’s most researched specialty immune supplement.

AHCC, the active ingredient in ImmunoKinoko, is an extract obtained from a hybridization of several subspecies of medicinal mushrooms. Rich in alpha-glucans, AHCC has immunomodulatory properties.

AHCC is:

• A highly effective immune modulator used in over 1,000 medical clinics worldwide*
• Japan’s top-selling immune-supporting specialty dietary supplement*
• Known for safety, as demonstrated by in vivo safety studies and 20 years of use*

AHCC:

• Maintains optimal NK cell activity.*
Natural killer (NK) cells, a type of white blood cell, are the immune system’s first line of defense against harmful organisms and abnormal cells.

• Enhances cytokine production.*
Cytokines are chemical messengers that help white blood cells communicate and coordinate an immune response.

• Promotes optimal T cell and macrophage activity.*
As part of the secondary immune response, T cells provide backup to NK cells. Macrophages engulf and ingest foreign particles and cellular debris.

Increases the activity and number of dendritic cells.*
Dendritic cells provide defense in tissues exposed to the exterior environment.

Unlike most other medicinal mushroom extracts which contain beta-glucans, AHCC is rich in acylated alpha-glucans and other unique fractions, naturally produced using a patented culturing process.

AHCC has a very low molecular weight of just (5,000 daltons) which increases absorption and efficacy.

Clinical Research on AHCC

If you want to dive deeper into scientific research publications on AHCC, you will find links to dozens of papers investigating using AHCC for many conditions at dozens of universities and research facilities.

  • AHCC has been clinically studied for cancers (pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, leukemia, melanoma, and other cancers)
  • AHCC has been clinically studied for mitigating side effects of chemotherapies
  • AHCC has been clinically studied for HPV and other viruses
  • AHCC has been clinically studied for immunomodulation

Innate Immune Support

Promotes Healthy Cellular Immune Response to Support Innate Immunity

Promotes Respiratory, Gastrointestinal and Immune Function

Blend of Astragalus, Biologically Standardized Andrographis, and Reishi  Mushroom Beta Glucans

Innate Immune Support is designed to promote cell- mediated immune response, including NK (natural killer) cell and macrophage activity.

Innate Immune Support may be indicated for enhancement of natural defenses and mucosal health.

About Ingredients in Innate Immune Support

  • Astragalus – contains a variety of active constituents, including saponins and flavonoids, that contribute to its long tradition of immune and cytokine balance support. Studies suggest that astragalus supports NK (natural killer) cell activity, as well as IgA and IgG (immunoglobulins) levels in serum, key antibodies that play a critical role in mucosal immune defense.
  • Andrographis –  the andrographis extract is standardized for andrographolide and other bioactive diterpene lactones. Research shows that supplementation with 200 mg of AP-Bio® Andrographis for five days promoted immune function and supported respiratory comfort. It is also suggested that it helps to support macrophage (white blood cells that fight infectious agents) function.
  • Reishi mushroom – offers a rich source of polysaccharides to promote cell-mediated immunity. The formula includes both reishi mushroom extract and a unique, highly-purified, reishi mushroom-derived beta 1,3/1,6-D glucan extract.

What is the Innate Immune System?
If pathogens make it through our first lines of defense and get into cells, the innate immune system “kicks in.”  The innate immune system is a non-specific generic immune response.

The injured cells produce chemicals (cytokines) some of which produce an inflammatory response and others which “recruit” white blood cells to the injured site.

The innate immune system does not retain a memory — it does not confer immunity the next time the same pathogen invades the body.

Immune Support
Clinical Cancer Research Shows Positive Results as Integrative Therapy

Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) is one of the best-documented mushrooms in scientific research. With a wide spectrum of beneficial properties, Turkey Tail shows much promise in supporting the immune system including innate antiviral immunity.

Host Defense Turkey Tail capsules use activated, freeze-dried, Certified Organic mushroom mycelium, with a full spectrum of constituents: polysaccharides (beta glucans, arabinoxylane, fucose, glucose, xylose, galactose and mannose), glycoproteins, ergosterols, triterpenoids and other myco-nutrients, which are essential for supporting natural immunity.

Turkey Tail Mushrooms Studied with Breast Cancer Patients, by NIH

A multi-year study of breast cancer patients, funded by the National Institutes of Health, demonstrated that Turkey Tail mushrooms improves their immune systems.

After radiation therapy the immunity of patients usually declines dramatically. This is reflected in a dramatic decrease in protective natural killer T cells, (type of white blood cell that kills cancer cells) following radiation treatments.

However, when taking Turkey Tail mushrooms, research showed the number of natural killer T cells increased their activity after radiation treatments for cancer.

Turkey Tail mushrooms are a promising adjunct therapy to traditional cancer treatments.

Age-old Use + Approved Anti-Cancer Drug from Turkey Tail Mushrooms in Japan

Since ancient history, Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) has been used  in Asia, Europe, and by native Americans to treat various illnesses. It is widely found in woodlands throughout the world.

Fast forward hundreds of years to the 20th century. In the 1960’s in Japan and more recently in the US, researchers focused on how extracts of Turkey Tail can enhance the immune system. In particular, they have looked at its effect on cancer.

An approved anti-cancer drug in Asia is made from extract of Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail mushrooms) called PSK or Krestin.

It is believed that PSK (protein bound polysaccharide, beta-D-glucan protein) inhibits the growth of cancer cells (anti-tumor). PSK may also enhance the body’s immune system’s natural killer cells.

Turkey Tail and Cancer Case Study + How I Became Interested

It took me a while to become open to learning about medicinal mushrooms.  However, when I was introduced to research literature about their anti-cancer properties I was particularly intrigued.

My mother had breast cancer, so naturally, I am very tuned into nutrition and lifestyle that may help prevent cancer.

I listened to the incredible TED MED presentation by Paul Stamets.

In this short video (approximately 7 minutes, 50 seconds into the video) he explains how using Turkey Tail mushrooms were part of his mother’s therapy to treat stage 4 breast cancer.

It is so compelling…. that I began incorporating Turkey Tail into my personal nutrition supplement regimen.

In addition to its promising anti-cancer properties, Turkey Tail mushrooms have many other potent therapeutic properties such as anti-bacterial, antioxidant, anti-viral, and immune enhancing attributes.

Turkey Tail mushrooms provide a diverse range of constituents to help balance the immune system and encourage resistance to cellular assaults.

17 Medicinal Mushroom Species Blend
Functional Food to Support the Body’s Immune System

Medicinal Mushrooms and Viruses

Medicinal mushrooms contain polysaccharides that can stimulate innate antiviral immunity.
Some of the most studied species are turkey tail, maitake, shiitake, reishi.

MyCommunity is a comprehensive medicinal mushroom formula that provides a diverse range of constituents to help balance the immune system.

Supported by clinical research, studies show that edible mushrooms support the body’s immune system and encourage resistance to cellular assaults.

For thousands of years medicinal mushrooms have been a staple of Eastern medicine.

Developed by mycologist (fungi scientist) Paul Stamets, MyCommunity contains 17 species of mushrooms. It provides a diverse range of myco-nutrients for supporting immunity.

Research shows that medicinal mushroom varieties work synergistically with each other. That means that they can offer added benefit over a single species of mushroom. Several of the species in MyCommunity are Reishi, Turkey Tails and Lion’s Mane.

Protective Compounds in MyCommunity Medicinal Mushrooms

My Community contains many potent compounds including:

  • beta glucans – polysaccharide found in mushroom cell walls, recognized for immune modulation, tumor-retarding properties have been clinically studied.
  • ergosterol – biological precursor to vitamin D2, found in fungal cell membranes
  • glycoproteins – compounds important in cell to cell interactions including white blood cell recognition and connective tissue support
  • triterpenoids – compounds that form natural structural building blocks for steroids
  • natural antibiotics – compounds that can inhibit the growth of harmful microbes or cure infection
(For example, mushrooms produce natural antibiotics that fight Candida albicans – yeast)
  • enzymes – hundreds used to break down plants

About Fungi Perfecti and Host Defense Medicinal Mushrooms
