Product Description

Lithium Orotate 5 mg

Targeted Support for SNPs in the Methylation Pathway
Part of PureGenomics Program – Based on Nutrigenomics

The PureGenomics Program incorporates a small amount of lithium orotate for people with SNPs in the COMT gene.

When the activity of the COMT gene is reduced, detoxification of dopamine and norepinephrine (as well as estrogen) is slowed, which may allow them to accumulate.

Since dopamine and norepinephrine have stimulant effects, people with the COMT SNP may feel excessive stimulation and need support for sleep, relaxation and mood.

What is Lithium?

Lithium is a naturally occurring essential trace mineral in our food and water supply. (Read below how natural lithium sources vary widely.)

It has many functions related to the methylation pathway and possesses some chemical properties similar to calcium and magnesium, including supporting relaxation.

Lithium has a long history of clinical use for supporting healthy mood and behavior.

Lithium increases the transport of B12 and folate into cells where they are needed for producing methyl groups. Methyl groups are an important part of biochemical pathways that deactivate dopamine, among other things.

Natural Lithium Sources Vary Widely, Depending on Where You Live

The amount of natural lithium you get varies widely in your drinking water and diet.

In fact, lithium levels in drinking water range from undetectable amounts to around .170 milligrams per liter.

Similarly, the amount of lithium in foods is also dependent on the water and soil levels where they are grown or raised.

Food-wise, eggs and milk contain the highest concentrations of lithium. Vegetables such as tomatoes, mushrooms and cucumbers also tend to be lithium-rich.

A provisional RDA for lithium for a 70 kg (154 lb) adult is 1 milligram per day.

The PureGenomics™ Program

PureGenomics is unique platform that utilizes genetic information from the 23andme or ancestry.com affordable at home tests to help more effectively treat patients and their individual needs.

The protocol targets key Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) that can be supported with nutrition, including genes in the methylation pathway.

The PureGenomics Program analyzes an individual’s genetic profile related to vitamins, minerals, detoxification pathways, weight management, cardiovascular health, GI health, cognitive health and memory, immune health, energy and fitness and glucose metabolism. New reports are added on an ongoing basis.
